Approach to Counseling
I believe that thoughtful writing is the key to a great application, and I enjoy helping students find their authentic voice. My approach is to break the writing process into manageable steps so students feel confident and excited rather than overwhelmed. Whether I’m coaching on personal statements or providing research support, I’m committed to giving families the information they need to make informed decisions.
Areas of Expertise
- Essay writing and personal statement coaching.
- Providing timely resources and information to families.
- Supporting international students and third-culture kids.
- Navigating the college application process with empathy and care.
Personal Touch
As a parent of two successful college graduates, I understand the emotional highs and lows that come with the admissions journey. My son holds a Ph.D. in Planetary Science, and my daughter is completing a Ph.D. in Public Health in California. These experiences have given me a personal perspective on the value of finding a “good fit” for each student.
When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling, writing, and spending time outdoors. My upbringing as a “third-culture kid” has inspired a lifelong passion for cross-cultural learning, and I love helping students navigate the complexities of international education.
“The qualities that I love most about you in your role guiding our son are your understanding of him as a person, your care for him and your patience and wisdom in working with him. He really enjoys you as a person, which is absolutely critical in spending so much time together and also in seeking guidance. He would often tell me, “I’m going to ask Carolyn.” I loved how he sought out your advice each step of the way…certainly he valued your input.”
